Plaster-in Installation

First Fix

How to install our Plaster in Range of Housings

Plaster-in light fittings are simple to install but Good Plasteing is the is key to a perfect installation.

Our products are designe to fit flush with the ceiling, so when plastering the front lip of the housing should be flush with the ceiling. If the plasterer gets carried away and put too much plaster around the housing it will be buried in the ceiling and the front plate will not be flush.

Cut Hole

Cut a 62mm Hole as it needs to be a snug fit for our housing

Fit Connector

Fit the supply connector to the cable

Install Housing

Push the housing into the hole and then twist to lock into place

Plaster the ceiling

Make sure the plastering disk is inserted in the housing and the front rim of the housing is flush with the plaster. Remove the disk when the plaster is finished

Paint the ceiling

Make sure the painting disk is inserted in the housing. remove after finishing painting

Fit the Insert

Plug in connector and push the insert into housing .

Cut Hole

It is important that you cut a reasonably accurate hole without cracking the plaster as the hole is what holds the housing in the ceiling.

This is not difficult, just hold the drill straight and let the holesaw do the work rather than pushing hard to get it done in 10 seconds rather than 30 seconds.

Fit the connector

Take the Connector's cap off, fit the supply cable as shown in the image opposite, fit the earth cable of the housing into the the earth terminal,

The fitting of the housing earth cable into the connector ensures the earthing of the housing (although it is insulated) but also secures the supply connector to the housing for ease of locating the connector.

 Repace the Connector cap.

Fit the Housing into the ceiling

Push the housing into the holeit will be an interference fit, so will be a little tight.

then turn the housing anit-clockwise to lock it in place, the wings will bite into the plasterboard ensuring a secure fit.

Insert the Decorators Card

The decorators card are used to protect the inside of the housing from contamination.

We sometimes hear of issues on site where "the front plates don't sit flush with the ceiling". This is because the plasterer or Electrician has decided not to use the Decorators cards.

Plaster the ceiling

This is obviously the most important stage, the plaster should be flush with the lip of the housing. if too much plaster is applied then the housing will be buried and the end result will not be perfect.

Pete the Plasterer offers some tips here.
