A linear diffusion lens in creates a linear pattern or texture on its surface, typically designed to scatter and diffuse light in a specific direction. The effect of a linear diffusion lens is shown opposite with various beam angles and can have the following impacts:

    1. Directional Diffusion: A linear diffusion lens scatters light in a specific direction, usually along its length. This means that the lens can be used to control the directionality of light, creating a desired lighting effect. By diffusing light in a linear pattern, it can highlight specific architectural features or create visually interesting effects, such as grazing or wall washing.

    2. Accentuation of Linear Elements: The linear diffusion pattern of the lens can enhance the perception of linear architectural elements, such as columns, beams, or walls. By diffusing light along these linear surfaces, the lens can accentuate their presence and create a visually striking effect. This can be particularly useful when the intention is to emphasize specific architectural details or create a dynamic lighting composition.

    3. Softening of Shadows: Similar to other diffusion methods, a linear diffusion lens can help soften shadows. By scattering and diffusing light, it reduces the harshness of shadows and creates a more gradual transition between illuminated and unilluminated areas. This effect can contribute to a more visually pleasing and balanced lighting scheme, reducing the contrast between light and shadow.

    4. Visual Interest and Texture: The linear diffusion pattern on the lens can add visual interest and texture to the illuminated surfaces. It can create a unique play of light and shadow, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the architectural space. The linear diffusion effect can introduce a sense of depth and dimensionality, making the lighting design more visually captivating.

    5. Controlled Glare Reduction: While a linear diffusion lens scatters light, it can also be designed to control the amount of glare produced. By carefully selecting the diffusion pattern and lens material, it is possible to reduce direct glare while still achieving the desired lighting effect. This is especially important in architectural spaces where occupants may be looking directly at the lighting fixtures.

    6. Directional Control and Precision: Unlike frosted diffusion lenses that scatter light in multiple directions, a linear diffusion lens allows for more precise control over the directionality of light. The linear pattern on the lens guides the light in a specific path, offering greater control over the lighting distribution. This can be advantageous when trying to create focused lighting effects or highlight specific architectural elements.

They can provide directional diffusion, accentuate linear elements, soften shadows, add visual interest, and allow for controlled glare reduction. When used effectively, a linear diffusion lens can enhance the overall lighting composition and contribute to a visually captivating and well-balanced architectural space.

    Fitting a Lens

Fitting a Lens into a Levello product is simple.

For deep and directional fittings  (plus versions are required) put the Lens in first, then the light source and secure with the spring clip provided.

For Low profile versions the Lens fits in the recess of the magnet.
